People wanting more information about the upcoming closure of the Walk-in Centre are encouraged to attend a public meeting next month.

Taking place at Healthwatch Swindon’s Sanford House offices in the town centre on Tuesday 18 February, the open meeting is a chance for anybody with concerns regarding the service’s withdrawal to come along, hear plans for the future and ask questions.

Gill May, Director of Nursing and Quality, will lead the meeting and provide those in attendance with a detailed overview of the changing landscape of urgent and on-the-day healthcare services, and how these national changes have affected services, such as the Walk-in Centre, in Swindon.

The CCG announced at the end of 2019 that the Walk-in Centre, based on the ground floor of the larger Swindon NHS Health Centre, will no longer be available after Tuesday 31 March.

Patients attending before this date will still be seen by the team of nurses and paramedics, but will be advised of the alternative healthcare options, such as contacting their GP practice, visiting a pharmacy or using the NHS 111 service, to use in the future.

The withdrawal of the Walk-in Centre will not impact on any of the other services based in the Swindon NHS Health Centre, such as the two GP practices, pharmacy, sexual health clinic and emergency dentist, all of which will continue to run as normal.

Gill May said: “It’s fully understandable that news of the Walk-in Centre’s withdrawal may have left some people with questions and concerns, and we want to use this meeting as a way of not only responding, but also giving the reassurance that on-the-day healthcare in Swindon is not disappearing.

“Swindon is rich with places to go for quick healthcare and, going forward, it will be these services – pharmacies, GP practices and NHS 111 – that will become the go-to options for people needing help with minor injuries and illnesses.”

Anybody wishing to attend the meeting at 6pm on Tuesday 18 February is asked to confirm their place by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before 5pm on Friday 14 February.
